Getting to know Dr. SOS Part 1
If we met you at a coffee shop, what is your 'go-to' order?
Caramel Macchiato
Are you a morning lark or a night owl? What does the first hour of your day usually look like?
I’m a night owl. The first hour of my day usually involves waking up slowly and once I realize I’m in my relative right mind, lol, I head for the shower.
What is one simple way you decompress after a particularly heavy week?
Music really helps me to get in the mood, whatever the mood needs to be. So sometimes I’ll be intentional in selecting specific tunes that will help me to ease into my evening.
If you could instantly become an expert in a skill unconnected to psychology, what would it be?
Playing the guitar. My husband bought me one as my 25th anniversary gift and I’ve been planning to take lessons since then. I love the fact that it’s a portable instrument that can move with me. I also love the idea of being able to play while I sing.
Part 2
What is the one book you find yourself gifting or recommending to people the most?
Currently, the book I recommend the most is Mel Robbins’ The “Let Them” Theory. While the theory is relatively simple, the practice can be quite challenging, but when you get it right, it is oh so liberating.
It’s a rainy Sunday. What represents your ultimate comfort movie or TV show?
While I don’t have an “ultimate comfort movie or TV show” per se, I love a good documentary or shows about medicine, nature and animals. Currently my happy place is watching “The Incredible Dr. Pol,” but a good doc on a person or event of interest is always only a click away!
What is one song or artist that is guaranteed to put you in a good mood?
I love Corrine Bailey Rae. “Put Your Records On” still makes me smile giving good energy, summer day, riding in a drop-top vibes.
Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction? What are you reading right now?
I’d like to think I’m a big fan of fiction, but what I tend to read most is non-fiction. I think it’s because of what I do for a living. I love exploring and learning more about how to help people grow, including myself. I have two books in heavy rotation right now: The “Let Them” Theory by Mel Robbins and “The Wisdom of Menopause” by Christiane Northrup, M.D.
